WHAT IS PHOTOSTORE?
Photostore is the Crafts Council's unique visual database. It features more than 60,000 images representing over 1,000 of the UKs top designer-makers, making Photostore an invaluable tool for commissioning and researching contemporary craft. It is a quick and user friendly resource ideal for buyers, agents, galleries, exhibition curators, architects and designers to use.
The critically acclaimed Photostore was first launched in September 1994, and launching online on 12th October 2004 at Chelsea Crafts Fair, marked its 10th birthday.
Visitors to Photostore Online can search for contemporary British craft by makers name, type of object, material or technique to obtain contact addresses, biographies and images of objects. It is a key resource behind the Crafts Councils commitment to raising awareness and appreciation of makers work and to improving economic support for makers by creating opportunities to sell and exhibit.
The designer-makers featured on Photostore are selected by a Panel of specialists looking for contemporary, innovative and high quality work, and has included high profile names such as Bernard Leach, Lucienne Day, Jim Partridge, Richard Slee and Simone ten Hompel.
Photostore also represents up and coming makers via the Crafts Council Development Award and Next Move scheme, offering support schemes for new creative businesses and recent graduates. These high profile new designer-makers include Cathy Miles (3D drawings and wall pieces), Rebecca Gouldson (metalwork), Jo McAllister (jewellery) and Mirjam Rouden (textiles).
